Questions

Does coldness peer from the eyes
which once glowed warm in welcome,
and hardness coat the heart
whose soft beat quickened,
at the thought of love?

Does silence still the gentle voice
which once whispered,
honeyed words,
or do other enchanted ears
listen attentively elsewhere?

Has time's cruel distance
dimmed memories of
laughter's camaraderie,
and wiped away the closeness
of loyal friendship shared?

In the future, if we meet,
will intervening years grow dim,
and loving memories
flood quickly back, or
a handshake replace the strong bearhug
of love's warm embrace?
