Villanelle

The trees it seemed whispered his name,
But in the wood I felt no fear,
I stopped and heard it once again.

Softly, as the first drop of rain
kissed my face like a heavenly tear,
The trees it seemed whispered his name.

My heart then felt a stab of pain,
He could not possibly be here,
I stopped and heard it once again.

I knew all hope would be in vain,
He had gone for many a year,
The trees it seemed whispered his name.

I listened and my ears did strain
to hear the voice I hold so dear.
I stopped and heard it once again.

A constant, quiet, sweet refrain,
It entered and my brain did sear,
The trees it seemed whispered his name,
I stopped and heard it once again.
