I looked up to you with love,
saw the goodness
of your soul,
kindness shone as you
taught me patiently to read,
allowed me too join you
playing among the detrius
of a humble society.

They did not see
or understand the innate good
that shone from happy eyes,
seeing only the colour
of your skin,
regarded you as an alien foe,
kicked and beat you
with the frenzied ferocity
of the mad.

Your death has drawn
the town closer
welded together by
horror, disgust
and a sense of great injustice.
Your light,which shone
in a dark world, cannot be hidden.
You will live in my heart for ever.
I was proud to call you brother

I pray that all men may learn
respect for mankind
regardless of colour or creed.
